I was talking with a client who wanted to throw a holiday party for his team but his budget was stretched thin. If you’re in this same position, the good news is there are cost effective options to celebrate with your Team during the season. Holiday parties go a long way toward making your Team feel valued and it helps them bond even more with one another. And it’s a good step toward team building and improving morale.

However limited your party budget is, it will serve you well to show your appreciation for your team’s year-long efforts in some tangible and merry-making way. I strongly suggest that you avoid “at-the-office” parties. It’s important to create a non-business-like atmosphere and that’s tough to do in the office.

A better option would be to invite your Team and their significant others to your home. At-home holiday parties have a warm and cozy feel to them, and that can make socializing more comfortable and enjoyable. Holding a party at your home can also be a little easier on the wallet and it creates a more personal environment rather than a restaurant or banquet hall. Most of us already do some type of holiday decorating so your home will already have a festive feel. Just add some holiday music and you’re ready!

Depending on your budget, you may choose to create a potluck meal. This gives everyone to chance to share a favorite dish and recipe. Coordinate with your Team and decide on the best day and time to hold your party. Brunch, lunch or dinner will yield different menu items. Post a sign-up sheet to avoid duplicate dishes and be sure to let your Team know what you’ll be providing.

Or, you may consider doing something a little more out of the box. Pile your Team into a limo, serve snacks-on-the-go and tour your city’s holiday light displays.

So, your action step is to create a holiday office party. Whichever option you choose, keep in mind that your priority is simple. Show your Team appreciation for their hard work while celebrating the holidays together! And, remember to take some party photos of your Team and display them on your bulletin boards. Patients get a kick out of seeing you all together!
